ENERGY YUH WANT, ENERGY YUH GINE GET!!!!!!
As we are in our 42nd year of celebration during independence in Barbados, one can only imagine that we must give God thanks for our leaders since 1966, when the father of independence Errol Walton Barrow raised the flag of Barbados showcasing the blue, yellow, and black with a strong force of energy of the pride and industry, until now. Hence the energy yuh want is the energy in saluting the six Prime Ministers. This is the fitting time to give honour to these individuals who have created an image for the development of this society. These leaders brought their own gifts, showcasing their talent and skills just as a Good Samaritan did. Mathematically speaking, 42 years can help us understand the true essence on these distinguished Prime Ministers. Therefore, 4+2= 6 Prime Ministers, when we divide that 6, by 2, it equals to 3 Barbados Labour Party in power, and 3 Democratic Labour Party in power. This 3 also has a symbol that shows that the longest time a Prime Minister ever served in this country was three terms in office. This three also showcase 3 Prime Ministers; Tom Adams, Erskine Sandiford and Owen Arthur, who all went to the Coleridge & Parry Secondary School then followed on to Harrison’s College. Thus, the energy yuh want are the characteristics from these 6 Prime Ministers, which include National Hero Errol Walton Barrow, Tom Adams, Sir Harold St. John, Sir Erskine Sandiford, Owen Arthur, and the Prime Minister, David Thompson.
Quintessentially, the energy yuh gine get is based on the foundation that
the youth are the future leaders of tomorrow. As the motto of the band states,
“the symbol of hope for the youth, by the youth, and about the youth,”
shows the pinnacle aspect that young people with their creativity, originality,
talented, skillful, and just a quest to do their best in keeping with what
our fathers have taught us in this land. The teaching of our forefathers helps
to molded us, and to carry the positive path of this society onwards. These
42 years also represents something even more significant on how young people
are being developed as future leaders of this society. When we divide 42 in
half we get 21. This 21 represents the age of the youngest bandleader ‘Mr.
Quincy Jones’ creating an undefined image of what it takes to be a role
model, Youth. That half tells the tales of this band coming back for its second
year, blending to create a dose of unique and youthful taste to crop over.
Finally, even though we won two (2) prizes for this band, which include best
community T-shirt and best presentation 2008, we will be fighting to add another
two (2) more titles to make it four (4) achievements within the past two years,
hence to strengthen the 42years of celebration. For that reason we salute
Barbados, we salute 42 years of commemoration and beyond, and we will continue
to salute our six Prime Ministers in order for the youth to be our leaders.
Thus, “I pledge allegiance to my country Barbados and to my flag, to
uphold and defend their honour, and by my living to do credit to my nation
wherever I go.”
